We made it!!!

Well we made it! Not quite straight forward but worth the stress. Welcome to my new (mortgage free) home :-)  A 1960s chalet style house with living room, dining hall, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, family room and a study.

No grass in the front or back gardens but easily maintained and space for my raised beds.  I even discovered that I have an apple tree (might be quince, will need to do some research!)

Décor is rather dated but the house is sound.  Unfortunately the kitchen just doesn't work for me.  It's badly laid out but most importantly it's filthy, greasy and just old.  Looks nice in the estate agent's photo doesn't it?  I panicked a wee bit and got a kitchen company out to give me a quote for a new one.  But I don't want to spend £10k on a 'nice' kitchen that isn't even my dream kitchen.  Fear not I have a frugal DIY plan though.  Watch this space ;-)

Apart from my bedroom, the Teenager's bedroom and the living room, most of my house looks like this!!

Thanks to a late entry into the house my removal guys were concerned about unpaid overtime so just chucked everything into the family room, the study and downstairs bedroom.  We've managed to clear it a bit so we can now walk into each room and close the doors.  But despite decluttering for Scotland before moving, I still have a lot to sort out.

But I keep wandering round and just pinching myself.  It's the start of a whole new life and way of living for us.  It'll be a challenge but I'm up for it :-)

  1. Welcome to your new home, Ali! :) You'll soon have it ship shape and then you can join me in the inventive game of trying to create a good, workable kitchen without spending thousands. :)

I think the house and garden look great - potential there to do much of what you dream of doing. I wish you good health and happiness in your new home.

  2. What a nice looking house! Just a word on the kitchen. The only woman I know who has her dream kitchen is my sister-in-law. She and my brother built (had built) their own home and she designed the kitchen and got everything she wanted. I'm still waiting for mine! Have fun in your new adventure. You have good taste and are so resourceful. I enjoy reading about your successes.

Although you are up to your eyes in boxes and bags at the moment it's yours..... all yours and that is brilliant :-)

    I'm so pleased for you.
