Day 7 - Busy fingers

When I was talking to my Lovely Mum on the phone last night I mentioned that my finger joints had been sore, probably thanks to this spell of damp cold weather.  Arthritis runs in the family so I do take a few supplements to help.  Mum asked if I've been knitting recently as it helps keep her joints mobile.  I had to admit I haven't knitted anything for aaaages!  I rummaged around in my yarn drawer and found my wee portable project bag, thinking I might have a part knitted sock in there.  To my surprise I found an already completed sock with a second one just needing the toe shaping!  I think these were the ones I started when I was travelling to Australia last Christmas (2019).  Just a Regia 4ply sock yarn.  I finished the toe shaping while watching a cheesy Netflix movie and wore my new socks today!

I also found 2 skeins of fancy sock yarn.  The turquoise one was bought at the infamous Stirling Knit Camp in 2010 with my friend MrsL from Anarchy for One blog.  Now she's a prolific knitter!! 🧶

I cast on this morning while waiting for a parcel to be delivered.  It's knitting up beautifully soft.  Just plain old vanilla socks, nowt fancy.  I also found a completed grey man's sock with the second one just ready to start on the heel.  DS has claimed them when they're finished.  🧦

So I'm keeping my fingers busy to ward off arthritic pain and it also stops me wanting to snack!  Win win!! 😆

  1. Struggling with knitting at the moment but am inspired by your recent projects to pick up the needles again. I'm also arthritic.

    1. They're my favourite knitting project as they're small and portable. I'm still wearing a pair I knitted at least 15 years ago!!

  3. I started trying to knit socks a couple of years ago but didn't get far. I really struggled with the multiple needles thing! I don't find knitting very relaxing I have to follow every step of the pattern very closely and count the rows so I feel exhausted by the time I've done! I'd love to knit socks though so I might try again! Yours look lovely and great if it benefits your health too. x

    1. Try the Magic Loop method on a circular needle, that might be easier once you crack the loop bit. I've knitted lacy socks in the past but can't be bothered with all the counting stitches and rows. So I just knit a plain ole sock now using nice yarn and the free Regia pattern I've had for years. I hardly need to look at the pattern now.

  4. Universe at work again lol - I was just thinking about you yesterday and your sock knitting and thought you hadn't mentioned any for a long time - and here we are! I'm a firm believer in that it's good for the joints, yes :) I don't have room for a piano here (another good thing for joints) so knitting it is :)
    Love those colours :)

    1. Great minds, eh? I've been seriously thinking about getting a weighted keyboard, cheaper and smaller than a full size piano. I miss my old piano but it went to a good home.

    2. There we go again - I've been looking at electric pianos - a friend has one and I was very impressed with it. Not sure I could get an upright in the hall and into the sitting room :( There are always options :) x

  6. I love your socks! Just knitting my first pair and am at the toe shaping. Not sure they will be the right size but I’ll persevere. I’m enjoying your blogs :-)
