I kept seeing this hack on FB and people were raving about it. Maybe you already know about it and I'm just late to the party! I made a perfect poached egg in the microwave and it was so simple.
I put 1 cup of water in a wee bowl, added the egg and cooked it in the microwave at 800w for 1 minute. It wasn't quite cooked so I did it another 30 seconds. And got the most perfect poached egg I've ever made! 😋
EDIT: If you need 2 or more poached eggs I'd suggest using a clean bowl and fresh cold water for each egg. My DIL did 1 perfect egg then did the second egg in the same bowl with the already hot water. The egg exploded all over the microwave 😱 It'll take a while for her to live that down!! 😂😂
I've never tried that - thanks for the tip

It really works! I was so surprised :-)
DeleteMy daughter does this if her husband isn’t at home. Otherwise, he makes perfect poached eggs in a pan. Less energy used doing it in the microwave too. Catriona
ReplyDeleteLess faff and less energy! Win win :-)
DeleteOoh what a brilliant idea, I'll try that for breakfast tomorrow, thanks! I wonder if piercing the yolk with a cocktail stick would stop any possible explosion?
ReplyDeleteI did wonder if you need to prick the yolk just in case. Might have worked for my DIL!! :-)
DeleteIt does work a treat. I prick the yolk with a sharp knife point and that seems to stop explosions. It's such a good hack. xx
ReplyDeleteThink I might do that next time just in case! :-)
DeleteI cook a scrambled egg in the microwave. Whisk it with some water, season it, cover it and cook for 45 seconds. I've been doing this for years. Fast breakfast. ~ skye
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'll give this a go as well :-)
DeleteI tried it this morning. Works great. Thanks for the idea as my poached eggs are hit and miss. ~ skye
DeleteYeay! I'm glad it worked for you :-)
DeleteWorth knowing! ARilx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad other folk think it's a good tip! ;-)
DeleteHubby makes poached eggs in the microwave all the time. I should give it a try on my own one day. Thanks for your directions.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Honestly best and easiest poached egg I've made at home :-)
DeleteThank you, what a wonderful tip!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I love a tip that works :-)
DeleteWhat a brilliant tip, I will have to give that a go I've always been useless at poached eggs.
ReplyDeleteI used to do scrambled eggs in the microwave and then I learnt how to make them properly in a pan and went back to the old way.
I can do a poached egg in a pan but it's faffy and doesn't always work for me. Scrambled eggs are pretty fast in a pan any way :-)
