Older and wiser??

I'm 57 today!! 🎂 Another year older and wiser??  Nope 😂  Still feel like I'm in my 30s although my body is telling me otherwise.  Number 1 priority now and when I retire is to get my health and fitness back up to where it was pre pandemic.  I remember fondly (!) the days where I could do a full day's work and then come home to go to the gym and workout for 2 hours.  Or go cycling/walking all day on a Saturday.

On reflection, I've spent the last year (since I got Covid) going to work then coming home to recover.  And by recover I mean doing NOTHING in the evenings or at weekends except to prepare for going back to work.  Holidays were spent recovering and catching up on dr and dentist appts, sorting out admin that could only be done in person.

I'm really looking forward to getting even better!!

  1. Every day, in every way you are getting better and better. Remember that and tell all the creaking parts that on a regular basis ... I do.

    Happy Birthday. xx

  2. I'm sure you will soon get your fitness back when you have more time. Did you hear about the Head Teacher who committed suicide from stress after a bad ofsted report? so very sad.

    1. I read about it, it's such a terrible thing to be criticised so publicly on such little evidence. Her poor family, friends and colleagues will be affected for ever.

  4. Hi dear lady, I made plans to retire at 50, at 55, at 60 and finally did it at 66 as I was able to carry on doing a job I enjoyed but believe me the is no way anyone would get me back in the workplace now after three years, we get by on what we have. So just let it all go, stop and enjoy yourself but mostly after all that has happened to you - be happy you deserve it.

    1. That's the secret! I think this time I've let it go in my head. I'll get by on whatever money I have, that's not the issue. I'm happy to get a wee part time job somewhere just to be sociable :-)

  7. Happy Birthday!
Like you I am working on getting better day by day, little by little. 4 lot's of covid, each worse than the last, left me with asthma and long covid for over 3 months, I am now told I have Fibromyalgia for which there is no treatment only symptom management. Can't afford to retire but have taken one of my small pensions, which has enabled me to cut my hours, rest more and enjoy the small things better.

I'm in a similar situation with work and am making changes after being very poorly. Dr thinks in part my sickness has been due to having to continually wear a mask for work. Thankfully that has just changed but will change again if any staff or resident get Covid. It's tough. x

  11. Belated Happy Birthday and glad to hear you are less tired. I was 57 when I retired and am now 73. The benefits to health outweigh any money I would have earned. I was speaking at an event in Parliament last week and my daughter lent me a jacket as I no longer have “smart” clothes. Keep pacing yourself and you will be in a good place to retire. Catriona

    1. Thanks! The older I get I realise health is more important than wealth. I'm being nosey now, what were you speaking about at parliament?
