December Dark

I'm finding the dark mornings of December hard.  The dogs still need fed and toileted at 7am but it feels like the middle of the night.  Because it's still dark I can persuade Luna to come back to bed after feeding her and I spend another hour or 2 in bed until it's light.  The dark evenings don't bother me, just the mornings where I struggle to get going.

I was woken up at 9am by the builders who had come to finish off the wee fiddly bits.  They were supposed to come yesterday 🙄 But the cladding and new guttering is now officially complete 🎉  The electricians came yesterday and did all the wee fiddly bits of electrical work I've been needing done.  The above light switch is on the wonk by about 1cm 🙈  It doesn't look too bad in the photo but it's obvious in real life.  I'm at the stage where I'm not going to sweat stuff like this any more.  I'll fill in the wee gap, paint it and leave it alone.

I got a Sainsbury's delivery this morning, a big one or so I thought.  Hopefully it will do me the rest of December with just a few bits 'n' bobs from M&S to buy.  As I was putting it away it really didn't seem like much food at all for just under £130.  And there were a few substitutions I returned.

  1. It's eye-watering how much a very ordinary shop costs now. Where will it all end? xx

    1. It's really scary how little you get for your money now. I'm already making plans to see how much food I can grow on the allotment next year xxx

  2. Everything in the supermarket seems to go up every week here also! Except strangely advocados, which we would normally not be able to afford, but have been having a couple each week! In southern Australia it is very light, but thankfully mild weather as we have been warned it may be a dreaded hot summer! Best wishes

    1. I really love avocados but don't buy them any more as they are so expensive here and can be hit or miss as to ripeness xxx

  3. I showed my husband the light switch and he said if we lived nearer he’d come and straighten it! Like you, I can’t believe how little I get in my supermarket order/ M and S for what seems a huge amount of money! Catriona

    1. Luckily it's in a room I don't use so it won't bother me as much as a more visible one would! xxx

  4. Prices are crazy..... It takes a lot to manage things now. I often wonder how my friend and her hubby can shop every second day. The only thing here that hasn't increased in price is bananas. A pretty frugal fruit even off season.

The dark mornings give me time to collect myself, but I am really looking forward to the easing of them.

    God bless.

    1. I really don't know how people are affording all the extra Christmas food as well. The price of turkey for example is just outrageous!! Shopping around for the best prices takes up a lot time xxx

  5. These dark mornings and gloomy days are awful. I am not waking up until after 8 and even then I feel exhausted. In the summer I was often up and doing stuff at 6.

    1. Same here, I love being up at 6am when it's light. Gloomy is the perfect word for the weather just now xxx

    2. I was thinking that if it were me i would unscrew the light switch plate and see if it could be adjusted, often times the insides are a little loose and just holding the switch plate in place and tightening the screws may do the job. Here in BC i'm finding the dark mornings gloomy as well but sometimes when the fog comes and doesn't lift for hours it's a different gloomy. Tory
