Haggis sausage rolls

They won't win any prizes for their looks but oh my goodness they're delicious!! 😋 Pastry made from scratch (56p worth of flour and 66p worth of home made butter) and filled with the free haggis I got from the community shop.  I used half a beaten egg (11p worth) to brush the tops and popped them in the oven.  Excluding electricity costs each one costs just under 17p each.

A bit less than the artisan ones I saw at the Farmers Market on Saturday!

  1. A lot less, I am sure, and probably just as delicious if not more so. Lovely!

    1. My son had one and he declared them the best he's ever eaten! And that's praise indeed from him :-) xxx

  4. Can't beat real butter pastry - a rare thing these days. Modern day pastry tastes of nothing at all, lest it offends someone ;) lol

    1. My cooking has gone right back to basics. I've got rid of as many ultra processed products as I can. Pastry is so simple - flour/butter/water/pinch of salt. Why complicate it? I'd rather have that than hydrogenated anything!! :-) xxx

    1. Yep. If it's very firm you can soften it a bit in the microwave first :-) xxx

  7. They look delicious, Alan would be over in a shot if he saw that photo. I don't know why I've never made my Scotsman a haggis sausage roll, maybe I'm just mean. ;-)

    2. Last year Alan said the veggie haggis actually tasted nicer than the 'proper' stuff. Result!!
