Things are moving!

I viewed another house this morning in a small town about 9 miles from Stirling.  It was the absolute limit beyond Stirling that I would consider.  It's a 2 bed semi bungalow, bit quirky in a quiet area.  It didn't have any central heating but it did have a woodburner and lovely wooden floors.

And I loved the recently fitted kitchen.  It was huge but very cold.  The owner apparently thought the house was warm enough so never bothered to fit any heat sources.

I rather liked the house but it made me realise I want to stay within Stirling, not least so I can keep my allotment.  So it was worth going to have a look. Which means the small house is still the front runner!  But I am going to view the one with the weird bedroom off the lounge on Thursday after all.

The estate agent selling my house has been to measure up and I've signed the paperwork!  My house will be on the market in the coming weeks.  Things are moving!

    1. Thanks, I hope everything falls into place quickly as I can't be doing with a long drawn out process! :-) xxx

  2. I’m loving the house hunting. I’m a smidge older than you and retired. We’re thinking of downsizing in the future, and now being nearly an hour from family close friends and major medical facilities, we’re thinking position, size, downstairs bathroom and loo and easily heated (and we need cooling as well) will be priority. Best wishes.

  3. Oh my, things are moving right along. I have been looking at listings in the city our youngest lives. Not sure if we would move into a smaller home or go right to a condo....

    God bless.

    1. I have the option of moving into a 2 bed flat in a retirement complex (they allow retirees over 55) but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. So I need to find a small house that I can future proof if my health/ability changes as I get older :-) xxx

    2. Ali think you are too young for a retirement complex, don’t get old before your time. Regards Moira

    3. Lol! Even my mum at 76 thinks she's still too young for a retirement flat!!! But they are much cheaper than other properties :-)

  5. I’m enjoying your search for two properties and know what you mean about the retirement flat. We were on the verge of moving just before Covid struck and I think I would have struggled in a retirement complex ( no matter how posh and expensive) during the lockdowns. We’re staying where we are and in fact have started to do some overdue maintenance on our home. Catriona

    1. I would love to stay where I am but the running costs of this house are more than I'm willing to pay. For example, I'm council tax band F!! Plus I have 3 rooms that are not used by any of us! Having my son and DIL living here has actually increased my costs and they're not in a financial position to contribute any more. But I made peace with moving house last year when I decided to retire early so it's all systems go now :-) xxx

  6. We downsized twenty years ago, we are now 74 and 82, we could not find a 2 bed bungalow so have a small detached 3 bed, in a town house complex. We travel a lot and the complex employs a Gardner , so that is always neat and tidy.

    1. Bungalows are always in huge demand so I'm open to all types as long as it's suitable for when I get older :-) xxx

  7. The house looks cold, so I dread to think what it will feel like in Winter. It's good to visit lots of different properties though isn't it, at least it sets in your mind what you really do want.

    1. I had on my big jacket and boots and I was cold the whole time I was in there. I do like laminate/wood floors but they do make a house even colder I think :-) xxx

  8. I agree about retirement flats. I actually did move in to the one I think you're mentioning (near the post office and Lidls) for three years having downsized from a house like yours. I was in a ground floor flat with a patio, had a handy gate by the driveway in and could come and go directly from my flat. But moved back to my rented out house when my tenant moved out, so I could accommodate a family member. And now moving up north.
There were some great characters in the retirement flats, but it got very depressing watching paid carers and ambulances come and go frequently. And the management company treated the residents like children. Definitely not for you, Ali xxx

    1. Good advice! Yes the ones by Lidl were in my mind plus the ones nearer Kings Park. It was just a passing notion, think I'm still too young for them although they are much cheaper to buy than other places. Maybe in another 20 years :-) xxx
