Is it me? Are my standards too high? They've missed a bit!
Shouldn't plasterwork be smooth?
Should the edges of shelves be free from chips?
I've got 4 damaged doors that are being replaced (apparently damaged in transit and already logged by my installer) but I have dodgy plaster work, screws not flush with walls and some inside shelves with dents and marks.
Surely the corners of the upstand should be mitred and not just stuck together?
Am I being too picky? I've paid a lot of money to a well known national company for a kitchen that I want to last for a very long time and I'm not happy with the finish.
I know I've still got to do a few things myself to finish it but I confess to being a wee disappointed with the quality of a so called professional finish.
No, you're not too picky, you've paid a lot of money and you haven't got a good job done for that money. My view about things I've paid for, be it work or a product, is to think about how it's going to affect me if I don't get it done....am I going to be disappointed forever after, or is it something that isn't going to matter to me too much and I can live with? And how much hassle is it going to be to get it rectified, or to live with it as is? I hope you come to a decision and are happy with it, be it getting it done properly, or learning to live with it.
ReplyDeleteGood points, I can live with the dents in the shelves but not the visible stuff! Emails sent to kitchen company and the installer already!
DeleteDefinitely complain - and soon! We had a very dodgy kitchen fitted several years ago by a well known company who have since gone bust. A rip off but we complained, had it put right and given compensation, so was worth it. We took many photos, took the names of the fitters and all the dates and times. Good luck and hope it all comes right in the end.
ReplyDeleteAlready sent a 'snagging list' plus photos so watch this space!
DeleteThat's very poor finishing. Needs to be put right I think
ReplyDeleteDefinitely needs put right! Emailed the company with photos and a list this afternoon!
DeleteI would definitely complain. You paid for a professional job and what you've shown us certainly isn't.
ReplyDeleteYes, I deliberately chose a professional company as I knew it was out with my capabilities. But it doesn't look professional so I've complained!
DeleteI agree with you, not finished well enough, call them back and get it sorted, and if you have a balance to pay, withhold it.
ReplyDeleteThere's a balance of about £700 to be paid when it's finished properly. And I'm not paying until it is!!
DeleteNo, you are definitely not being too picky. A snagging list with photos is needed - looks like you've nearly done it already. That plaster finish around the sockets is poor. Electrical fittings should be level with each other too! That may be an optical illusion from the angle of the photo but the left hand switch looks higher than the double socket.
ReplyDeleteAny shelving that is dented needs to be replaced and if marks won't come off they need to go as well.
The fitting of the upstand is less cut and dried. Quite often they seem to be fitted like yours. If it is tight and neat I wouldn't be so worried about that. How is it sealed to the worktop though? It should be otherwise grot will creep in there.
Sorry you are disappointed a the moment. It's such a big outlay and upheaval. It needs to be put right.
Good advice, a snagging list with photos already sent! I've asked around about the upstand and opinion is divided. I'll see what they say about it
DeleteGet them told. It'll haunt you for years if you don't sort it.
ReplyDeleteYep, they've been telt!!
DeleteNot at all too picky. There's no excuse for shoddy work and that is shoddy!
ReplyDeletexx
I'm glad it's not just me that thinks it's shoddy!!
DeleteI wouldn't be happy with that either x
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with my kitchen, just not the standard of finish so far!
DeleteYou're absolutely right to complain. Shoddy workmanship right there. I hope they agree to fix it all. The upstand is one of those things, a professional should mitre it but they don't always nowadays unfortunately, it takes more time to do and more skill. I hope they return soon to fix it.
ReplyDeleteI just assumed it would be mitred. It looks wrong. I hope things get fixed soon too!
Deleteyou're not being too picky, it's not much to ask for things to be done properly, after all, i expect they would complain if you didn't pay on time x
ReplyDeleteIf they want to be paid they'll need to finish the job!
