  1. I would absolutely recommend just about anything Mercedes Lackey wrote, especially the Tales from the Five Hundred Kingdoms and the Valdemar/Velgarth World Series. They're SO GOOD! And Wen Spencer's "A Brother's Price". It's a brilliant exploration of gender norms and gender-roles, with romance. Just saying. :)
