Reducing my environmental impact
I popped into M&S as I had vouchers to spend and had a good look at their 'new' plant based range. The problem with a lot of meat replacement products is that they're not gluten free. So I was rather pleased to find these! I don't think I've mentioned here that I did Veganuary, a whole month of not eating meat or animal products. I managed to stick to it most of the time and found it was surprisingly easy to do. I challenged myself to eat as many different plant based meals as I could last month and found I saved money as well.
There are loads of bloggers, vloggers and writers out there far more knowledgeable than me so I'm not going to bore you with any facts and figures. But reducing meat consumption has a bigger environmental impact than cutting down on flights or using an electric car (I have considered both these options!) Even eating a few meals a week has an impact.
So, although I wouldn't describe myself as a vegan I am consciously not buying and eating meat or dairy products. I'm still going to eat the eggs my own chickens produce and for now will still eat local honey as it has so many health benefits.
Eating a plant based diet will save the environment, save money and has many health benefits. So I'm hitting 3 of my 2020 goals in one!

We eat meat free at least once a week and feel it's a good way forward, if everyone did it, the difference would be huge. I don't eat process food, which as lso helps, we eat seasonal and buying local each helps. I believe if we all do our small bit it becomes a bigger movement.

DeleteI try to have a couple of no-meat days a week but I don't think I save any money as fruit and vegetables are getting more expensive. Normally I would just have a small portion of meat anyway so that's probably why it isn't much of a saving.
ReplyDeleteFruit and veg are definitely getting more expensive here too! I use mainly frozen veg now and in the summer I'll be trying to grow as much salad stuff as I can to save money

DeleteAny less meat and dairy that anyone can eat helps. Just think if everyone on the planet went meat free just one day a week the huge difference that it would make.
ReplyDeleteSome of the M&S new food range is fantastic, I love the Garlic Kievs, but I don't think they are gluten free so no good for you :-(
I read that their Garlic Kievs are flying off the shelves!!! Sadly I can't have them but brilliant for everyone else :-)
