Socks and suds

I finished the blue and green socks 🧦  They've grown on me!  They're not this vivid in real life.  It's a sunny day here making them look brighter! 🌞 I'm so pleased I managed to match the stripes but I'm undecided if I should wear them myself or gift them at some point 🎁

I've knitted 2 more squares for my sock blanket.  I love how the same yarn can produce 2 different looking squares🧢 I've got a growing pile of squares to add to the blanket so I'm not casting on the last ball of sock yarn yet.  I need to deal with the squares first!

I went to empty the washing machine only to find it had stopped halfway through the wash  It's got a digital display and it said 'suds' πŸ™„ It's started doing this a lot!  I've got soft water so I only put in half the recommended dose of Ecover any way.  The machine is about 5 years old now and it moves around when it's spinning.  I have to keep pushing it back under the worktop.  It is also VERY noisy! 🎧 I'm not taking it with me to my new house as I'd like a washer/dryer to save space. My dryer is in the garage.  I rarely use it but my son and DIL use it all the time.  No idea why it's started making so much foam but it's a pain to scoop it all out and rinse off some of the clothes in the sink πŸ‘šπŸ‘–πŸ§¦

  1. I had the same problem in a much younger machine than yours. I used Ecover liquid, only half the dose as I live in a soft water area. However, the combination of a gentle shampoo and washing on a cooler cycle was the problem. On advice from a plumber, I switched to an increased temperature and Ariel which apparently controls the amount of suds produced - and it worked.

    1. Interesting! I wash everything at 30, or 40 if it's dog related just to kill off any germs. But I'll try keeping an eye on the temperature to see if there's a pattern. Thanks! :-) xxx

  2. Perhaps Ecover have changed their ingredients?

    1. There's a thought! Could be, as I haven't changed how I'm doing my laundry :-) xxx

  3. Is the machine taking in enough water? Too little water could result in a lot of suds with the agitation. I like the idea of your 'sock blanket'. :-)

    1. Hmm, there could be something in that as it wasn't a full load. The machine is so clever it probably isn't taking in the same amount of water a fuller load would. I need to get my sock yarn blanket out and add the new squares. Then I'll take a photo of the progress :-) xxx

  5. IIRC when I had a moving machine many years ago it needed new bearings.

    1. It probably needs a new something but I'm trying to nurse it along until I move :-) xxx

  6. We’ve had a terrible time with domestic appliances lately. 3 year old dishwasher flooded but was repaired, 3.5 year old Miele washing machine’s pump went but was £600 to repair so we were advised to buy a new one! (Which we did but bought a Bosch). Fridge and freezer needed replaced during the second lockdown so we had to buy unseen online. When you are looking for a new washer/drier could I suggest AO as there service when buying and installing is very good. Catriona

    1. My previous Bosch washing machine was 17 years old when it became unrepairable. This one is a Samsung and it's a digital song and dance machine! I use AO as I like being able to see videos of the products and they install a new one and takeaway the old one :-) xxx

  7. Now that is a lot of suds. I can't imagine what is causing it other than as another poster said the formula was changed a bit.

    God bless.

    1. It's very odd but I just need to nurse it along for another few months :-) xxx

  8. I’ve got a Bosch machine and they suggest putting a cap of fabric softener and 1/2 litre of water through the detergent drawer as it acts as an anti foam agent. Fortunately I’ve only had to do it once and it was amazingly successful. My machine doesn’t seem to like Fairy products. Hope that’s helpful.

    1. That's interesting! I'm wondering if the foamy issue is because my son and DIL use bio capsules for their washing. They never have an issue but maybe my Ecover reacts with their bio product residue in the drum :-) xxx

  9. Late to this but thinking you are right suggesting it may be the capsules to blame - we have soft water and one capsule is far too much x

    1. I think it could be. Luckily it won't be a problem when I move as I don't use capsules :-) xxx

  10. Our irritating washing machine keeps getting a Draining error! I don't understand why!

    1. I think washing machines are too sensitive now they're all digital. They tell you what the problem is but then you have to work out how you're going to fix it!! :-) xxx
