NHS dentist

Last October I broke a tooth and saw my NHS dentist in November.  He gave me a temporary filling and hoped that he'd be able to save the tooth by doing root canal treatment.  In January it became obvious that the tooth couldn't be saved ๐Ÿ˜ž  After nursing it along for several weeks (while I got a plate made) the tooth was removed yesterday.  Not nice but not as bad as I thought ๐Ÿฆท

After he removed it,  he told me it had a huge abscess at the root that hadn't shown up on my x-ray.  No wonder I'd had toothache!!  I'm a bit sore today but absolutely fine.

Total cost of all the treatments and a new plate (which actually looks good!) was £160.28.  I dread to think what I'd have paid if I had a private dentist.  I know I'm lucky to have that option here in Stirling but a lot of people don't.  This is why we have to fight to keep our NHS dental services ๐Ÿ’ช

Things are moving quickly on the house front ๐Ÿ˜ฑ  I've viewed a few properties already and have instructed my lawyer that I'll be needing their services very soon.  Viewing properties has been 'interesting' and definitely merits a whole post ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜‚  Watch this space...

    1. I'm amazed at how some people present their houses for sale. And here I'm worrying about a scuff mark on the door frame I haven't re painted yet!! :-) xxx

  2. We have no NHS dentists anywhere around us, we have been private for a long time now. Like you, I had a front tooth with a root canal done and after 17/18 years it just fell off into a cup of coffee๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Dentist extracted the root and I had a temporary one tooth on a plate which cost £2k which also included impressions and eventual crown. Once healed I opted for a permanent implant (private surgeon procedure) which cost me £4k, have to say it was worth every penny as it was a visible front tooth, I would replace any tooth in the same way as it is a permanent solution๐Ÿ˜.
Good news on the house hunting and viewing, hope you sort it out pdq so you can let rip into making your new home exactly as you want it. Jan in Castle Gresley

    1. My dentist did talk to me about implants but as I have 'low lying sinuses' they wouldn't be my best option. Plus I need 4 in total so it was a non starter for me. Glad they've worked out for you! :-) xxx

  3. I feel very lucky to still have an NHS dentist, however my practice is more interested in private patients to be honest and cosmetic dentistry. When having a check up, you're in the chair for less than a minute!! My mother in law passed away a few weeks ago and her cottage was put on the market soon afterwards. The first lady who viewed it put in an offer - she's a cash buyer having relocated and isn't in a chain - how lucky is that!! It's just a matter of waiting for probate now - and that's another matter !!!! I hope you sell and buy in similar circumstances.

    1. House selling and buying is all about luck and what's available at any given time. Where I am, renting is very difficult (and expensive!!) so I need all the entry dates to line up. That's going to be a bit of a headache as I can't just rent something for a few months if I don't buy anything. Fingers crossed it all works out :-) xxx

  4. We gave up on NHS dentistry a while ago. Our local one kept saying that our teeth didn't need a clean - not 'clinically necessary' to be included as part of the NHS treatment - while referring us to the private hygienist! Eventually we forced them to do it once on the NHS by pointing out if they were suggesting we went to the hygienist then it must be necessary. Left and I joined Denplan Care at a new practice. I pay £27 a month and that covers all checks, cleans, x-rays, fillings and most things apart from lab work. OH who's teeth are better than mine pays privately. His private cost for a check and clean is now less than it was at the NHS dentist who didn't want to do it. We've been lucky to find a dentist couple who don't want to rip people off. They don't employ a hygienist - they do the cleaning the way dentists used to do.
Can't wait to hear more property news.๐Ÿ˜

    1. My youngest son couldn't register as an NHS patient anywhere when he moved back to Stirling, including my practice. So he has has a dental plan he pays for monthly.
I've got loads of property news but I'm saving it up for a longer post!! :-) xxx

  6. Hi Ali, I sold my house near Stirling two weeks ago, in order to move up north. For the area I'm looking to move to, there are more smaller properties with issues than there are gems with good energy performance certificates and mostly or all 1's in their home reports.
So I was delighted to quickly find, and have an offer accepted on a fab spacious modern flat in my chosen area up north. However, the owner has now died! So the hunt continues, and I don't want to lose my first time buyer who made a very good cash offer. So heading north again for two viewings on Monday. Fingers crossed! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

    1. Fingers crossed you see something else you like. It's so stressful co ordinating the selling then buying bit. Plus I'm trying to buy 2 properties!! If it wasn't for the potential future grandkids (both sons in Stirling are planning to start a family asap) I'd move North too. Maybe even to an island. But as I had my kids young I've waited a long time for grandkids. And I know I might not get any but the potential is there and I want to be involved. My grandparents helped my mum with me and my sister. My mum helped me with my boys so I want to be involved :-) xxx

  7. I so understand about wanting to help with potential grandkids. My daughters and my gorgeous, cute and funny five year old grandkid all live in a far away land, and good as video calls are, nothing beats being together. xxx

  8. I'm glad your tooth is finally sorted out. NHS dentists are thin on the ground where we live, and all practices are full up with both NHS and private patients so there are very few spaces that come up for all the buyers of the new houses in the area. We had to go private to be able to even have a dentist.

Viewing houses is a brilliant hobby isn't it, and some people have no idea about how to stage their homes do they, and have the strangest of things in their homes. Our solicitor is always on standby for our next sale or purchase, at the moment he is coping with both.

    1. Lol! My solicitor is the same. I just had to say my name on the phone and the girl said 'Oh you live out by XXX don't you? Are you selling it now?' Great service and the main guy there told me he thoroughly enjoyed taking on my ex husband in my divorce!!! :-) xxx

    1. Before the tooth broke it was to be root canal treated and crowned.
It would have cost me around £200 for the NHS one or £650 for a private white one. Losing the tooth and getting a plate was much cheaper!! :-) xxx
