And so it begins

Happy New Year!  I hope this year is a better one for us all. I'm trying to be upbeat about the you-know-what despite several friends testing positive this week *sighs*

I came downstairs this morning to find that my kettle had leaked water all over the worktop.  It's the second time that's happened.  So first day of the new year and I've had to buy a new kettle.  I spent some time researching good deals and have ordered a lovely new one.  It was half the price it should have been (or so it said on the website!) so have saved some money I guess.  Not the start I would have wanted but a good reminder to think about every purchase.

Let the 4 year money saving challenge begin!

  1. Not an auspicious start to the year, Ali, but don't let it get you down. It could have been something more serious!

    1. I know! So glad it wasn't a big ticket item but I'm prepared for that too if I need it :-)

  2. I have heard about a number of friends and others we sort of know, coming down with the you know what.

Wishing you a wonderful new year.

    God bless.

    1. Thank you, you too! It was predicted that there would be an outbreak after Christmas and that seems to be the case

  3. It's spreading like wildfire, isn't it. The one consolation is that mostly people are just mildly unwell, thank goodness.

New year, new kettle! Why not, it sounds very appropriate in an odd sort of way.
I'm glad you got a good saving and it should last you. Quite a time ago now, I took a very deep breath before paying over the odds for a lovely kettle (no special deals, sadly) but it has been brilliant, still as good as new and looks to be really earning its price. May yours be the same.
    xx

    1. To be fair it was a new to me kettle but still not that old. I'll be interested to see how long this new one lasts :-)

  4. An irritating start to the New Year for sure. It reminded me of last new year for me. I went to sort out my yoghurt and found that the yoghurt maker was cold! Shock, horror and total disbelief. What should have been lovely yoghurt was still cool milk :-( I must have been the only woman on the planet who spent the opening hour of 2021 frantically searching ebay to find a replacement - I would have bought a new one from Lakeland, but they had replaced the model I have with an 'improved' one that judging by the reviews wasn't improved at all.
Hopefully your new kettle will last a good long time. Had to replace ours last year - the old one didn't leak but the plastic was crumbling and I figured that we were probably drinking bits of it with every cuppa!
Happy New Year and happy savings. May the kettle be the only thing that needs replacing this year.

    1. Yep, very irritating. Fingers crossed it's the only thing!

I have one of the newer models of that yoghurt maker and it never makes decent yoghurt with goat's milk or soya milk. Before I gave up cow's milk I regularly made yoghurt with my original yoghurt maker with 100% success. I'm now wondering if my recent failure is because of the 'improved' version!

    3. I've made yoghurt in my slow cooker in the past. I'm intrigued by the Instantpot but not tempted to buy one (yet!)

  5. I always find the minute I say I'm buying nothing something breaks and needs replacing! Hopefully your kettle will last a long time and will be your only 'necessary' purchase this year! Happy New Year. x
