Jackpot!

Oh my goodness, I hit the jackpot today!  I think I got my best ever Lidl veg box plus a good amount of healthy food from the community food waste shop and M&S.  Everything in the above photo cost me £1.76!!  Honest!

I did a lot of walking too so I'm feeling blessed and virtuous and a bit sore tonight!!  I've frozen what needed to be frozen but I now need to work out some meals and recipes to make the best use of everything I got.  If you've got any suggestions let me know! ๐Ÿ˜‹

  2. Wow fantastic! Love a good haul. Went to the thrift store today here in France with my teen daughter (la friperie) She picked up boots, shoes, Nike joggers, 2 bags and a bracelet. She was chuffed! We also dropped off a few bags of our unwanted clothes so it’s great everything gets re-used and recycled :-)

  3. Brilliant! I have had some really good Lidl boxes in the past but have managed to miss them lately. We do have a community fridge but I've never visited it. Sadly we're not near M&S or Waitrose so very little chance of finding their lovely food reduced.

  4. Can you demonstrate how and what you freeze in a future video, and then how to defrost afterwards to cook / eat.

  5. I have used Butternut Squash to make a lovely soup. Good for you in doing so well getting groceries for so very little.

    God bless.

  6. So far I have never seen a box in our Lidl and have been in at all different times of days during the week!! Try butternut squash (or sweet potato), chickpeas, onion, spinach and any curry sauce you like, cheap and tasty๐Ÿ˜‹. Jan in Castle Gresley

    1. I hadn't seen one for ages, then I got two. They definitely change the times they put them out, which is annoying if you're trying to get one :-) xxx

  7. Thai curry butternut squash soup is lovely, for added creaminess add a dollop of natural yoghurt. I have only used aubergine in a moussaka but that’s a lovely meal if you happen to have the other ingredients, and you could stretch it out by having salad on the side, and also freeze a few portions. You got a great haul there!

  8. That was a brilliant shopping expedition. Maybe you could photograph each meal you make using the things you bought with for a blog post and also to insert the photos into a vlog. (Time to develop these new skills even more. ๐Ÿ˜€)

    2. A lot of healthy meals there. Bircher muesli perhaps with an apple a day. I use butternut squash in red soup with onion, celery, red lentils, and tomato paste and chicken stock. It is tasty in a risotto.

  9. I frequently get Lidl boxes usually at about 10am,I also look for reduced mushrooms, at the moment I have enough meat. One other place to check, not for reduced food but for reasonably priced food is Farm Foods, my daughter says that is where the poor people go for ready meals. I don’t eat ready meals but buy salmon mussel meat and prawns, also their milk is cheaper. One of our favourite meals is white sauce, made with full cream milk mustard Worcester sauce and a spoon of grated cheese with mussel meat served over spaghetti and Parmesan on top. I save money anyway I can so we can go traveling. I wish you well Ali enjoy your retirement.

    1. Thanks! That spaghetti sounds delicious!! My big Lidl used be 10am for the boxes, now it's 9am. The wee Lidl was 4pm. They definitely change the timings around. Not tried Farmfoods. I'll have a look in there next time I'm in town :-) xxx
