Pay rise!!

After an absolutely dreadful week at our school regarding the behaviour of some kids (and unbelieveably some parents!) I came home tonight to find that Scottish teachers are to get a decent pay rise!  Not the 12% that the press have been quoting!!!!!  7% in April and another 3% next year.  It's more than some other public sectors are getting so I'm grateful.

The next campaign will be to reduce workload.  One step at a time!

  1. Great news about the pay rise! Often with kids with behaviour issues, you meet the parents and think 'the apple didn't fall far from the tree'!! Makes dealing with the behaviour very difficult.

    1. I'm really pleased that it didn't come down to strike action. I would have done it but with a heavy heart. As for some our parents, the comments on the school FB page were nothing short of bullying some teachers :-(

  2. 12% would be deserved after all the years of seeing your salary decline in real terms but 7% and 3% is better than the nothing teachers have become used to.

    1. Yep, better than nothing. Still below in real terms but the gap has closed significantly. The real problem is retaining young teachers so I think the Scottish Government realised they had to find the money.

    And well deserved.

    1. Thanks!! It's really boosted morale at a time when schools are in crisis with multiple behaviour issues

  4. Glad the strike action has been averted however there needs to be less rhetoric and more action to address the kindnof week you have just had. Do what I did, Ali, and try and hold onto the extra cash with a view to getting out. My friend’s daughter (44) immediately applied to drop a day when she heard of the rise to spend more time on her marathon running and keeping sane. Another goodnpoint for you is that it should boost your pension if you are still part of the final salary scheme-Inthink the younger staff have been denied this? Horrible day here so I feel the crafting call. Take care-three weeks to go.
